Going to a hospital
I want to go to the hospital. Do I have to pay for it?
If you have health insurance, you must pay 30% of medical expenses at the hospital. 20% of medical expenses for children up to age 6 (preschool age). Depending on the municipality, medical expenses for children may be even lower or free of charge. For more information on eligibility age and so, please check with the local municipal office where you are registered. Those who are over 70 years old basically pay 20% of the medical expenses at the hospital.
I am not feeling well, but I don't know which hospital to go to.
If you do not know which hospital to go to, if you cannot get someone who understands both Japanese and your language to go with you to the hospital, if you do not have medical insurance, or if you are having trouble paying medical expenses, consult your local municipal office, International Association, or support organizations.
I would like to go to the hospital, but I do not have the money.
Some hospitals and municipalities offer assistance to those who are in need and cannot pay medical bills. In addition, in some areas, support organizations offer free medical checkups and medical consultations.
